Picked up this 88 300TE a week ago from Pittsburgh for $500. Seller has done a lot of work to it, filled it with spare parts and gave us a mini tour of Pittsburgh. My dog peed on his Christmas tree but he was cool about it. Runs okay, sorting out a nasty cold start issue and a general lack of power after initial takeoff

Wow. Looks nice, especially for $500. Seller sounds pretty cool too, which is a nice bonus

Years ago I had a W126 300SE with a similar issue (same M103 engine). Fuel distributor failed - not too difficult to fix.
Sounds like a bargain.

One day my instrument cluster lit up like a Christmas tree, about a month after I bought the car (pristine one owner car, I won’t forget it). I assumed everything didn’t actually fail at once. It was that exact relay. Easy job even for me. I think it was maybe $100 back then, around the turn of the century.
That and the fuel distributor were the two biggest failures on the car in the years I had it.
